Criminal Justice Population & Realignment

In addition to the fact that SUD is highly prevalent in the criminal justice system (CJS) population, there are more justice-involved offenders being sent from the state CJS system to be housed/paroled in the counties in California. Hundreds of low-level offenders are now being sent to county jails and local re-entry programs instead of state prisons, due to a state of California correctional realignment effort. SMC officials estimate that up to 600 of these individuals will be incarcerated in the local jail system by 2014.

VORSMC is one of the entities contracted by the county to provide community-based peer-led recovery support services for the CJS population. The VORSMC CEO developed specialized wrap groups for justice-involved participants and their significant others.
